RODEO HISTORY

Long Rodeo Co. was founded during the Bicentennial in 1976, by  DeLayne and Vickie Long.
DeLayne had competed in rodeo for over 15 years.  He worked four events, saddle bronc, bareback, steer wrestling & bull riding. DeLayne himself, visioned a Rodeo Company with outstanding bucking horses and bucking bulls that any cowboy would be happy to draw, and that would give them the opportunity to win on every time.  To this day, the DeLayne Long Rodeo Co. is known throughout the country for their outstanding bucking
stock.

An example of this dedication, shows up in this four time World Champion saddle bronc horse, #18 Roller Coaster.  No horse has ever broken his record of being a four time world champion bucking horse.  In 2002, Roller Coaster turn 28. He is retired here to pasture on the long ranch, and comes up for his grain every day.  He is one of a kind! Truly a great athlete.

This is Two time World Champion bareback horse, #13 Vin. Vin was successfully bucked up to his retirement in 2001. He also is retired to pasture here on the long ranch. Vin is the oldest bucking horse here on the ranch at 29.

With the death of DeLayne Sr. in 1991, a lot of people thought that the Rodeo Company had seen its last performance. Vickie and DeLayne Jr. decided to quiet these people as they set out to carry on DeLayne's dream to improve the herd.  That lead to the purchase of Purgatory at the IPRA sale for a record price of $10,500.00 To improve the herd even more they purchased T 13 Shameless at the NFR sale for a record price of $13,500.00.

Another dream of DeLayne's was to supply an athletic breed of bucking bulls that carried large horns and beautiful spotted coats for a colorful show.=This is now a reality, DeLayne Long Rodeo Company is the only stock contractor that has raised every bull that they haul to their IPRA rodeos and bull ridings competitions.

With over 20 years producing colorful rodeo action from Florida to Canada, the Long Rodeo Company is still living that dream, by producing outstanding colorful livestock that pleases spectators across the United States and Canada.

A little over ten years after the death of DeLayne Long Sr., wife Vickie passed away of a heart attack, in her sleep, while attending the PBR Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada - October, 2001.

The DeLayne Long Rodeo  Co. will go on and continue to live the  late DeLayne and Vickie's dream, its our dream too.
See you at the Rodeo's!
